The Space Generation

This worldwide network of students and young professionals has a passion for space. Yuri’s Night started as a “Space Gen” project in 2000 and continues to recieve support from the Space Generation Foundation and the Space Generation Advisory Council.

Founded by long-time Yuri’s Night and Space Gen members Will Pomerantz and Nick Skytland, Space Alumni is intended to be the ultimate “hang out” for space enthusiasts on the web. With over 500 members in its first year, the site has grown into a convergance point for information from inside the global space community.

International Space University

The International Space University develops the future leaders of the world space community by providing interdisciplinary graduate-level training and educational programs to students and space professionals in an international, interdisciplinary, and intercultural environment. Since its founding in 1987, ISU has graduated more than 2200 students from 87 countries including many members of the Space Generation.

Cosmos Education

Another Space Generation project, Cosmos Education is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to improving science education in developing countries. Professionals and students in scientific fields visit schools and youth institutions in developing countries such as Kenya, Zambia, and Tanzinia. Their science education outreach programmes focus on the role of science and technology in health, the environment and sustainable development.

The X PRIZE Foundation

This organization uses competitions to create innovative breakthroughs in space and related technologies for the benefit of mankind. As the incentive for Mojave Aerospace Ventures, the Ansari X PRIZE opened a new era in personal spaceflight in 2004. Now an annual X PRIZE Cup competition aims to make space a mainstream spectator sport. Interns and former employees are integral parts of the Yuri’s Night executive staff each year.

The National Space Society (NSS)

NSS is an independent, educational, grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to the creation of a spacefaring civilization. Thousands of members and over 50 chapters in the United States and around the world make this the preeminent citizen’s voice on space. The society officially supports annual Yuri’s Night events and boasts Yuri’s Night co-founder George Whitesides as thier Executive Director.

The United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

The official space agency for the USA, and the largest single source of cash flow into the space sector in the world. NASA also supports Space Generation projects–including Yuri’s Night–through its various centers around the country.

The Federal Space Agency of Russia (Roscosmos)

As the decendant of the official space agency for the former Soviet Union, Roscosmos traces a long history directly back to Gagarin’s first flight. Each year they celebrate “Cosmonautics Day” in Russia on April 12 as a national holiday. They have also been very kind in working with the Yuri’s Night team to create international celebrations based around the accomplishment of human spaceflight.

World Space Week

Declared by the United Nations General Assembly and held each year from October 4-10, this week marks both the anniversary of Sputnik and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty. As another global celebrationof space, this has a much stronger focus on education and public outreach and much broader context (astronomy, science and math education, space vehicles, manned spaceflight, etc.). Yuri’s Night compliments World Space Week and helps to keep the excitement of space alive throughout the year.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)

Founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway Human Transporteris, this multinational non-profit organization aspires to positively transform culture by inspiring young people, their schools, and communities to appreciate science and technology. They intend to make science, math, engineering, and technology as cool for kids as sports are today through exciting technology competitions.
