If you are hosting your own event and are looking for ideas read on:

Yuri’s Night is a decentralized, organic celebration of space, taking place around the world on the night of 12 April each year. It’s people around the world celebrating the wonder and joy they feel about humanity exploring the Universe.

We encourage you to think about why you like space and how you could make a personal celebration, and then invite your friends to a local party for the cosmos!

There are any number of events that you might want to hold. To get you started, we’ve assembled some suggestions on what you could do to celebrate Yuri’s Night:

  • Approach a local night club and suggest that they throw a space-themed party on 12 April. They’re probably open anyway – and a space party night, with space costumes and videos provides a great party theme. Several of last year’s parties also threw in contests for the best space costumes, a sure way to make it a memorable evening!
  • Have a dinner party with friends and watch the stars. Some people prefer a more relaxed celebration – what a great idea! Why not get together with your favorite people – your family, a few friends into space, your lover – and share a great meal, then walk out into the night and watch the cosmos above. Bring a pair of binoculars or a telescope if you’ve got one!
  • Organize a space music concert. Many artists (maybe you?) are space enthusiasts; you can ask the one you know to hold a concert on 12 April. You’ll give them a great reason to play, and invite your favorite space friends to hear some music on the perfect anniversary.
  • Contact radio stations and have them play space songs all night long on 12 April. Whether it’s rock, techno, classical, jazz, country, or any other style, there are plenty of space-themed songs. Why not write or call your favourite radio station and ask them to make a space theme of their programming on 12 April? They’ll probably thank you for suggesting it!
  • Get your local TV station to screen space documentaries on 12 April. There are thousands of space TV programs that inspire and amaze. Just ask your favourite TV station to play one or more of these programs on 12 April. While you’re at it, ask the local TV news to do a story on your local Yuri’s Night celebration!

Whatever you plan, we want to know, so that people in your area can link up with you and extend the celebration into the global party of Yuri’s Night! E-mail us at info@yurisnight.net to get your event on the web, and we’ll try to get you in touch with others near you.
